The Kitchen

Tonight, I went to work on the house and didn’t really know where to start.  So I decided to start unscrewing stuff.  I ended up in the kitchen, taking off the cabinet doors.

I can’t decide if I want to leave the doors on or off.  I am going to post a few pictures.  PLEASE, let me know your ideas.  Should I leave the doors on or off?

I am officially a homeowner!

So I signed my papers yesterday.  I am now a homeowner building equity!  Yea!  However, I have a long way to go before the house is ready!

Mom went over today and pulled up old tac board so we can lay the laminate.  (Thanks Mom!)  I called all of the electric, gas, and water services today.  This is a very frustrating thing to do, especially when you work in customer service.  Those people are so rude!  I mean really, I know it has to be very boring answering phones all day long….but HEY, you are getting paid for it!  Be happy!  This is your job…..OH MY WORD!  REALLY? Very frustrating!

Anyway, my plans are to start painting Saturday.  That will be a long day, but defiantly worth it.  Hopefully lots of work will be done!  Hopefully by Sunday, I will have at least one room completely painted and have pictures to show for it!

Stay tuned…..

Homeowner to be….

I will be closing on my new house Tuesday, July 14 at 12:30.  Wow, scary!!!  Tuesday night I will begin painting.  Everyone is welcome to come help!!!  :)   I wish I could not work for the next three weeks!  I guess if  I can’t get away for two days, there is no way I can go for 3 weeks!!!!

Oh well, I will be over there EVERY night available, please come and join in!  I will have great pictures soon, so stay posted!!

Haven’t closed yet…

Well, I had planned on closing on my birthday, but we didn’t get to.  The loan is officially finished, but we have to wait 48 hours after all the paperwork has been completed.  So, we are looking at Monday or Tuesday.  It’s kind of crazy to think I will be a homeowner in less than a week.  A little scary too!  I think I am growing up….. :)

I don’t have any updated pictures because I have been busy every night.  I haven’t had a chance to get anything else done.  If I don’t get to leave for vacation tomorrow (a whole other story that probably isn’t best to ask me about) then I will go over and finish the last room of carpet then.  I can’t believe how the time has flown.  It seems like I was just starting to look for houses yesterday!

LOOK!!! I have internet again!!!!!! YEA!

It has been forever since I have posted anything.  Sorry!  My internet has been out and the tech FINALLY came to look at it.  So, while I was out lots has happened.  Where do I begin?

The most exciting news is that I might get to move the closing up!  If everything works out, I will get to close on my Birthday!!!!  How neat is that.  That will mean that I will be a home owner on July 8th.

The house is still technically not mine, but the owners have been gracious enough to let me go ahead and pull up carpet.  I have removed the carpet from the living room, hall, and half of two bedrooms.  I am hoping to finish the rest this week. After that I will start cleaning and get ready to paint!!!!!

Now, imagine wood laminate on the floor and asparagus green on the walls!  A red couch, zebra print chairs, my red rug and black and white damask rose curtains will complete in the living room.

I have also picked out my paint colors.   As I have mentioned before, I want color.  Well, I am definitely going to have it.  The Kitchen and Guest bedroom will be Asparagus Green.  The living room and hall will be the same green, just cut in half.  My “entertainment” room and guest bath will be Cool Rhapsody Aqua.  The master and master bath will be a dark gray (sorry I can’t remember the color).  Unfortunately,  I cannot figure out how to add these colors on my page.  But, if you would like to check them out, go to www.behr.com and you can search by the color name and see the chosen color.  Or, you can just come help me paint and find out then!!! :)

I have also decided on my counter tops for the kitchen.  They will be black porcelain tile.  Now, I do realized how hard it will be to keep clean.  It has taken me a while to decide on this.  Please do not try to persuade me otherwise.  I have made up my mind!!!! :) (I say this because it has taken me forever to make a decision)  And let’s face it, I don’t cook enough to make it very dirty!

I am also trying not to be a procrastinator.  I am already packing boxes.  I have an entire month from today, but it will go by extremely fast.

Packing up!

Packing up!

I believe this is about as far as I have made it on the house.  I will have more regular updates now that I have my internet back, so stay tuned!!!!

Tyler Parade of Homes

Today I went with Michael and Kirby to the Parade of Homes.  They had some amazing houses, of course mine will not compare to these, but I still love mine.  I have been a little apprehensive about using so many different colors in the different rooms.  But, today I saw lots of color.  One house had probably 10 different colors throughout the house.

So, I believe I have chosen (for today) a green for the living room and kitchen.  In the kitchen I will accent with yellows and the living room will have the red and the black and white.  Oh, I can’t wait…….

Lots to do!

So, Delaine and Jackson met me over at the house this evening.  Jackson even started cleaning for me!

I wanted to talk COLOR.  Of course, I have already decided the color for my office.  Now I’m trying to decide a color for the living room and kitchen.  I keep on coming back to green for the kitchen, but then I will see yellow and lean that direction.  Then, I saw HGTV doing a silvery gray and I loved it.  So many options!!!!

If I do a lighter yellow, I think I could run it through the living room, hall, and kitchen.  If I did green, I would keep it just in the kitchen.  Silver I could run throughout the house  as well, but I think I’m going to put that in my guest bedroom.

So, I think I’m going to go with a sunkissed yellow and accent with greens in the kitchen.  My couch is a brick red and my accent chairs are zebra print!  Any ideas on how yellow will look with this?  Remember, it’s a pale yellow.

I have included a picture of the kitchen and living room.

Good news!

Well, I got some great news on the loan today.  The appraisal came back and all went well, much better than expected.   I thought I was going to have to correct a few problems before the bank would loan the money.  However, I spoke to my lender today and he said everything looks good!  YEA!!!!!  I can’t wait to start painting!!!!!

Speaking of painting, I have included a picture of the room that is inspiring my office/entertainment room.  Tell me what you think!

I love the wall color and of course the black and white with it. I love the pink, but don't know that I will do that because I will have red everywhere else in my house.

I will be going to the Tyler Parade of Homes with Michael and Kirby this weekend, so hopefully I will get some more ideas for the rest of the house.  My main goal is to go with fun colors.  I have been living for the past 6 years with white colored walls and am sick of it!  I need color!!!!!!

Kristin’s Continued Adventures

Thank you all for keeping up with our Seattle Trip.  I/We had a blast!  Sadly, I had to go back to work today and enter the real world again.  But, I have very exciting news!  While Erin is continuing her summer in Seattle, my new adventure is buying a house.

I have found a house and this blog will be turning into “My First House.”  Feel free to follow along as I twist and turn through the path of buying a house (I hope the curves are not as sharp as some of the ones we took on our way to Seattle!).  I know it will definitely be an experience!  Please feel free to comment and give me ideas while this is my first time ever to do this!  Most of all, ENJOY!

Erin’s continued adventures

In the spirit of things, I have decided to continue with a blog of my own describing my summer as an intern in Seattle.  If anyone would like to follow me this summer, you may go to http://erinsseattleadventures.wordpress.com.

Thanks! ~Erin
